Maintaining a flawless tan while having eczema is freakin hard. Having had eczema since a baby, I have learnt to deal with it and keep it pretty under control. Before seeing a dermatologist in my teens I was covered in rashes from from the neck down. If you have had eczema long term or had a child with eczema, you can understand the pain and embarrassment it can cause, the constant battle to avoid irritants and keep the skin hydrated. Now days, I have it pretty under control with strong steriod ointments, a skincare routine of thick emollients and avoiding certain foods. Alcohol always gets me scratching though, but thats not one Im willing to give up yet!
When it comes to tanning, well you know Im kind of obssessed. But with any dry skin, rough patches, rashes and scarring, it can make the tan grab and go a bit patchy. However... all hope is not lost. There are still things you can do to. 1. Get a patch test - if your really sensitive and react to alot of products ( especially tanning products) ask your tan tech for a patch test a few days before your tan. Most are happy to do this for free. You can also ask about the ingredients if you have a known reaction to certain irritants like fragrances. Certain brands I have had a major reaction to and others Im fine with. I don't seem to react to Body Glow - probably because its 96% natural ingredients and why I love the solution so much. 2. Stick to your prescribed creams - on the lead up to your tan, you want to get your skin in top shape. This may mean using any prescribed steroid creams multiple days in a row and sticking to your skincare routine that works best for you. Im a sucker for getting lazy and not doing it. Obviously avoiding known irritants aswell but we all know that! 3. Fresh rashes and irritation should not be tanned over. You can always ask your tan tech to avoid certain areas or put your ointment over it to act as a barrier. Dry patches can be covered with our barrier cream or Vasaline to avoid the tan 'grabbing' and looking darker on the dry areas. 3. Hydrate like crazy - this means drinking loads of water and putting on moisturisers twice a day after your tan. DHA (the active ingredient in all tanning products) does have a slight drying effect on the skin. Fortunately Body Glow solution is full of skin nourishing ingredients like aloe vera, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil and avocado oil to help counteract this effect. But you still need to moisturise as much as possible for 5-10 days to keep your tan looking good. Everyones body is different and eczema severity varies from person to person. We all have different irritants. Some people cannot fake tan at all while others with eczema can. You know your body best and if you have any concerns, ask your doctor.

Its not uncommon for people to ask me what to wear. And for good reason, it ultimately plays a big part in how your tan will turn out.
Dark loose baggy clothing - Whatever you wear, will most likely get some bronzer transfer onto it. But don't worry, it will not stain as our solution is water based. Wearing black clothing prevents any bronzer showing up. Loose clothing is essential to prevent rubbing on fabric against your tan while it is still developing. This can help prevent lines and rub marks and make sure your tan is even and flawless all over. For example: an airy maxi dress, baggy black t shirt or some harlem pants. No bra is also preferable. We also sell disposable Brown Bare tanning suits to protect your tan and your sheets. Jandals - Keep and easy and breezy and keep the air flow around your just tanned feet. Sneakers may cause lines around your ankles. However, it is raining then its best to cover up all skin. Hair Tie - Keep your hair up in a bun and tied up tight away from your face. Jewellery off - Its best to leave your jewellery behind to avoid awkward tan lines. No makeup or skin products - Tan absorbs best on clean skin free of any residue from makeup, lotions, perfume or deodorant. Deodorant in particular reacts with tan causing it to turn the bronzer bright green. During your tan - You can wear whatever you feel comfortable with during your tan. Just be aware of the resulting tan lines, if you mind them or not. You can go completely naked, wear underwear or a g-string, Some people wear a strapless bra but it is not needed. Also if your going on holiday and going to be wearing swimwear, then you probably don't want to tan with full briefs on as tan lines may show. Disposable g-strings are provided. Mani/Pedi - Make sure you get these BEFORE your spray tan appointment Hopefully this guide helps you know what to wear and not wear to your spray tan appointment. If you have any questions please email me and make sure to book your appointment :-) Are you wondering how this mysterious solution darkens your skin and stays that way for a whole week? Introducing DHA - dihydroxyacetone (wow I actually spelt it right). This is the active ingredient in every tanning product. It is derived from sugar cane. The darkness of a tan depends on the % of DHA in the solution. When you get a spray tan, you will instantly look tanned from the bronzers in the solution. This is just so the spray tan tech can see where they are spraying and so you leave looking beautifully bronzed. The DHA on the other hand is actually colourless when first sprayed on. Once applied, begins a natural reaction between the DHA and the amino acids in your skin. This is completely safe and much better alternative than tanning in the sun. As your tan 'develops', your skin will slowly be getting more tanned.
Often when people talk about development time they are usually referring to the rinse off time of the bronzer. At Body Glow my solution can be rinsed off in as little as two hours. The tan continues to darken for much longer than this, even up to 12 hours. Hence why I say getting a tan 2 days before your event is the ideal time. You will then have a beautiful than that will last 5-10 days. Pretty amazing right? While self tanning yourself at home can be convenient when you lack time, nothing compares to the results of getting a professional spray tan.
Self tanning has been around for years. Shove on a mitt and slather on some tanning mousse or cream all over and buff. Its a workout... buff buff buff until you think your flawless. Then the unavoidable... "oh how do I get my back" problem. Then theres the next day "crap, I missed a bit". Self tanning can be cheaper but is it really worth getting a poorer tan for a special event? Dont get me wrong, self tanning can be great if YOUR GOOD at it. It takes time and practice. Also topping up your tan yourself on places like your legs is always popular. Nothing beats airbrush... spray tan is basically blown onto the skin in a fine mist through a machine with high air pressure. Its hard for a fine mist to create any lines or patches. A great machine plus a experienced technician equals the most flawless even looking tan you could possibly get. Ankles and wrists are tapered off with a light mist, there is no hard lines. Plus you can get your whole body tanned and dried in only 10 minutes by just standing there. What would you rather have?
